The juvie Red-tail didn't seem to be too bothered by my being close with the camera, unlike his parents, who fly away seemingly even if I so much as think of pointing the lens in their direction.
The pigeon had been dropped off my his mother, and this could have been his first attempt at plucking the feathers by himself, as he didn't do too good of a job. Raptor Etiquette will come soon enough...

It was fascinating to watch the Dipper braving freezing, rushing water in search of a meal. Here you can see the nictating membrane closing over the eye as the water rushes over the Dipper's head.
