The Four Preps sang "26 Miles Across the Sea", but in fact Santa Catalina Island off the southern California coast is only 19 miles from the mainland. But no matter how close it is, Catalina might as well be a world away from the urban California coastline. Here are photos from a trip I took with 2 photography friends from May 4 thru 6, 2007.
UPDATE: On May 10, 2007 a "hundred-year fire" hit the Island. Catalina's only town, Avalon, has been evacuated as the fire is within the city limits. The fire is still ongoing and the extent of damage unknown, but many of these scenes, particularly the non-city shots, may have disappeared.
