Steve Wolfe > This photo and the following 15 were taken over a period of several months of the same hummingbird whose territory is in a coastal chaparral part of the Botanical Gardens. It's difficult to tell whether it's a Rufous or Allen's Hummingbird as they're virtually indentical, but my Sibley's guide says the Allen's tends to be in this type of environment, and that the adult male has a greenish back you can see in some of the following pics. But apparently some Rufous ALSO show a greenish back, so....but I'll stick with this likely being an Allen's male.
