While walking down the dirt road along the back area I scared-up an American Bittern but just managed to grab this ID shot, November 15 2010.

And after all that it comes up...with an ant.
How it can maintain its balance in such a torrent I don't know.
It was fascinating to watch the Dipper braving freezing, rushing water in search of a meal. Here you can see the nictating membrane closing over the eye as the water rushes over the Dipper's head.
